What Is A Medico-Legal Consultant?
A Medico-Legal Consultant is someone who specializes in laws applicable to the field and practice of medicine. They can assist attorneys with the complicated medical aspects of their cases, helping legal teams make legal arguments as they apply to a variety of situations (ex. specific procedures, general standards of care, etc.)
What Do Medico-Legal Consultants Do?
This very much varies from case to case. In general, however, a consultant:
- can offer insight on complex medical issues as they present in a case
- help organize a medical record
- create a chronology report (for easy reference in a deposition, case, etc.)
- offer an opinion on the merit of a case
Due to their experience, these consultants are able to help attorneys and a jury analyze and evaluate cases as they pertain to claims of negligence, malpractice, etc.
